Storm damage in district on Tuesday night

Areas in the district experienced some damage from severe storms on Tuesday night.  Here are photos from some of the damage.

A busy day and more truck updates...

A busy day for updates!  I guess I could have just jammed all these posts today into one, but what the heck, it keeps things hopping.

Today was a busy morning for sure, and thanks to all of the guys that helped out Benton.  Thanks to Nathan Holley for handling the CO call.

We had a Chief's meeting last night and even though it was interrupted by a tugboat fire, nothing was earth shattering.  If anyone has interest in daytime, during the week trainings, let me know.  Other departments are considering doing trainings during the daytime for people that work afternoons.

A little more work on the truck tonight.  Most people were wondering, "what's going on the back?"  so here's what the back of the truck looks like:

You know, in the beginning, I was totally against the chevrons on the back of trucks.  However, its like anything different, it can grow on you.  And sometimes we just have to put our personal feelings aside and say "if it helps save one person from getting hurt or killed, it was worth every penny."  I think this was a fantastic addition to the truck, and hopefully soon more trucks will be equipped.  I'm going to post a nighttime low light/reflective shot to see what it looks like.  I'd love to hear what people think about it.  Post and let us know.

Also, thanks goes to Jeff Holley for the wonderful work on this project.  The materials are the best you can get and you cant beat his service and prices.

Finally, as of this moment there is a chance of wintry precipitation later this week, check in with your local media to find out more.  Until next time...

HB/ENO Responds to CO Detector Call on Oak Level-Elva Road

Harvey-Brewers/ENO Fire Departments responded earlier this morning to a complaint of a carbon monoxide detector alerting a hazardous condition on Oak Level-Elva Road.  Units on scene, equipped with multiple gas detectors discovered a high level of carbon monoxide in the residence.  Ventilation and termination of the heat source causing the conditions reduced the dangerous conditions.

Just as a reminder to everyone with propane or natural gas devices in the home, make sure to inspect your CO detectors and ensure fresh batteries.  If the detector does alert, turn off devices that potentially can cause the situation and ventilate your enclosed areas and contact emergency services and/or the appropriate service, such as your gas company, HVAC, etc.

Structure Fire Mutual Aid to Benton FD

Harvey-Brewers/ENO responded to Mayfield Highway early this morning to assist Benton FD in a structure fire at a residence.  First units on scene found a fully involved structure.  Cold temperatures made firefighting operations difficult.  Benton Fire Department, Palma-Briensburg Fire Department, HB/ENO, Marshall County Rescue Squad and Lakeland Red Cross all responded to the scene.

Traffic Control on KY 58

Harvey-Brewers & ENO units were dispatched to KY 58 near Tom Prather Road in reference to a vehicle off the roadway.  There were no injuries, however the vehicle was lodged on two stumps causing difficulties for the wrecker service.  Units on scene provided traffic control and assisted the wrecker that was stuck as well.

Units responding:  Brush 2, Support 1

Join me in congratulating the new Chief of the Harvey-Brewers Fire Department. Chief Brian Andrus was appointed by the board tonight. Chief Andrus began his career in the fire service in 1998, and quickly rose through the ranks from firefighter to Deputy Chief. His hard work in procuring grants for the department has not only saved tax payer money, but has also outfitted the department with cutting edge equipment. Advancing the department into the 21st century. Congratulations Chief Andrus on this new endeavor.

Cat in Tree Call on Houser Road

On Saturday, January 5 at approximately 1100 hours, Harvey-Brewers/ENO units responded to a call of a cat in a tree at the 2700 block of Houser Road.  The caller advised the cat had been in the tree for approximately four days.  The cat was approximately 25 feet in the air.  Utilizing truck ladders, units climbed and removed the cat from the tree.  The cat was not harmed and has been secured and transported to the Marshall County Animal Shelter.

Work Session and truck updates

We had our first meeting this year which was a Saturday work session.  2013 ushers in a new year and many changes at Harvey-Brewers/ENO, the first being a big time cleanup of the station.

Many things were accomplished, some of which was a major cleanup and rearranging of the office.  Jonathan took the reins on a project to collect all of the unused equipment and either take to the trash or prepare for scrap.  Butch was lead on getting the tank mounted on the new brush truck.  I've got some photos of the setup on the back of the truck and it is fantastic.   As of now the brush truck is functional and ready for calls.

Thanks to the following for coming and attending and participating:  Jonathan, Doug, Butch, Darrell, Nathan Holley, Garrett, Deameon, Adam, Marvin and Will, as well as Brandon from CCFR for helping out.

More Brush Truck Updates

I'm really liking this website, it is much more flexible than I ever imagined.  I've also got the website up on www.wmfd.us as well as the blogspot page.  Keep visiting regularly, this website will change regularly.  I even added a radar and a temperature widget.  Feeling pretty smart right now...

The brush truck is still coming along slowly but well.  Just today, Jason finished some of the radio/console install.  I've got some low quality phone pictures of the console.  It looks professional as can be. There are some pretty nice things about the truck so far that you just have to see to appreciate.  We have high intensity rear scene lighting and are working on high intensity driving/fog lights for the front.  I still expect the truck to be completed mid-February.

As they say, no news is good news around the Fire Department.    No calls to report at this time.  We do have a work session planned for Saturday to work on the brush truck and the station, so more pictures as we go.
